(ConservativeHub.com) – On Friday, November 17, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) received praise from former President Donald Trump over his decision to release some of the footage from the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack.

The tapes were made available by the Committee on House Administration, and include around 90 hours of footage from the Capitol premises during the day of the attack. In total, there are approximately 44,000 hours of footage that will be made public; however, the entire collection has not yet been released.

In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social Trump praised Johnson for having the “courage” to share the Jan. 6 tapes and show the American people what actually occurred on the day of the Capitol attack.

The House had originally announced in September that they were planning on releasing the footage. In his announcement, Johnson argued that this decision would allow Americans to view for themselves everything that occurred on that day instead of having to rely on the “interpretation” of a few government officials.

The Speaker also pointed out that around 5 percent of the footage was going to be redacted for security purposes, while the faces of private citizens were going to be blurred. It has been close to three years since the incident at the Capitol.

Many Republican lawmakers have been pushing to have the footage released to the public for years. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), who is a vocal supporter of Trump, called for the release of the tapes everyone this year, arguing that this would allow everyone to know what had occurred and would restore the country’s fair justice. She further argued that this would allow America to move forward.
