(ConservativeHub.com) – On April 14 during the National Rifle Association’s annual conference, former President Donald Trump proclaimed that he would be a  “loyal friend” of the association if he was elected again in 2024.

The event, which took place in Indianapolis, featured a speech from Trump in which he talked about how they had “saved” the Second Amendment during his time in the Oval Office and that he would continue to fight for the Amendment even after. He continued to claim that during his time as President, he was the most “pro-Second Amendment” person to ever lead the US, according to The Hill.

Trump was quick to add that with the support of their attendees, he would be a “loyal friend and fearless champion” of the NRA again in 2024. He further claimed that federal legislation needed to be in place to protect the rights of citizens to defend themselves as well as find effective penalties

He added that if he won back the White House, he would call on Congress to establish a bill which would allow for a US concealed carry “reciprocity” law, giving each state the right to carry a concealed carry permit approved in a different state. He argued that this is no different than someone carrying their driver’s license or marriage license.

Trump also paid tribute to the recent school shooting at an elementary school in Nashville, Tennessee, which left three adults and three 9-year-olds dead.

According to The Hill, research has so far not been conclusive about which types of moves would be best for preventing deadly mass shootings. However, Trump has maintained his stance that the problem in the US is not about guns, but about culture and mental health.
