(ConservativeHub.com) – On Thursday, May 25, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador once again commented on U.S. politics, urging Hispanics to not vote for Republican presidential candidate, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. DeSantis announced his presidential campaign a day earlier.
During a press conference, Lopez Obrador said he hoped Latinos would not give “one single vote” to the Florida governor, who is known for having taken a stance against illegal immigration and having pushed for the border to be secured and even possibly shut down. The Mexican president however has claimed that DeSantis was playing politics on immigration policy and as a result, he says Hispanics should not vote for him.
According to news outlets, Lopez Obrador stated that he hoped “Hispanics in Florida will wake up” and that none of them vote for DeSantis, or for any candidate that chooses to “persecute migrants” or “don’t respect migrants.”
This is not the first time that Lopez Obrador has made statements about the U.S. election. In March, after some Republicans called for the U.S. military to get involved in the southern border to stop the influx of migrants and fentanyl into the country, the Mexican president threatened to start an “information campaign” against the GOP urging Hispanics to vote against them.
He further claimed that the Republicans’ call to use the military was not only “irresponsible” but also “an offense against the people of Mexico, a lack of respect for our independence, our sovereignty.”
In July 2022, he also slammed Texas Gov. Greg Abbott claiming that he was going to push for his countrymen to vote against both him and his party.
