(ConservativeHub.com) – New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez’s PAC reportedly sent thousands of dollars to a top Democrat committee on the same day that it was publicly announced by federal investigators that he would be facing bribery charges.

On September 22, federal investigators announced that both Menendez and his wife Nadine Menendez would be facing charges over accusations that he had taken part in a corrupt scheme with halal meat certification business owner Wael Hana, businessman Jose Uribe, and New Jersey real estate developer Fred Daibes. He is also charged with conspiring to illegally help the Egyptian government.

Menendez’s New Millennium PAC wired a $15,000 contribution to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) the same day the charges were unsealed, Fox News reported. The DSCC is working to support Democrats running for Senate.

Fox News reported that while this led to some disputes after he was charged, the money transfer was made before the reveal of the indictment.

As of the end of September, the money appears to have remained with the DSCC. In recent years, Menendez had also donated $30,000 to the committee. However, he has not been vocal about these contributions.

Following the announcement of his indictment, many Democrats have been pushing for him to resign from Congress. DSCC Chair Sen. Gary Peters has also stated that Menendez should resign but has not made any comments on what the approach regarding Menendez’s reelection campaign next year would be.

Other politicians have also announced that their committees would return any donations received from Menendez while others stated that the contributions would be donated to charity.
