( – The GOP presidential primary for the past few months has been viewed largely as a battle between Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former President Donald Trump, even though DeSantis has yet to announce a 2024 bid. However, more recently, a major DeSantis-aligned PAC has gone after GOP candidate Nikki Haley, according to a recent report from Politico.

Haley has so far failed to rise above single digits in most of the national polls looking at hypothetical 2024 matches. Still, that did not stop DeSantis-aligned group Never Back Down from running an online ad campaign targeting Haley. The ad includes polling different Twitter users on what potential name Haley can be given. In a social media post, they also accuse her of “trying really hard to audition” for the position of Trump’s Vice President.

According to the Politico report, this move suggests a change in the dynamic, as DeSantis is polling lower and lower in many of the recent national polls. This move could indicate that the Super PAC is attempting to make sure that DeSantis will remain one of the two leading candidates for the presidential election.

Justin Clark, a Republican strategist known for serving Trump’s deputy campaign manager in 2020, argued that this is an acknowledgment from DeSantis’ team that the Florida governor is closer to the other candidates than to Donald Trump.

The pro-DeSantis PAC’s anti-Haley moves came after Haley made a jab at DeSantis during a recent interview with Fox News, targeting his handling of Disney.
