(ConservativeHub.com) – According to a new report from The Hill, some Republicans appear to be worried that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) have made a mistake regarding his fight with Disney, which is still ongoing after over a year. Some have even pointed out the potential dangers of this feud, saying that the fight against the company could end up being a distraction to DeSantis’ expected presidential campaign.
The outlet states that while a number of polls have shown that the majority of GOP voters appreciate DeSantis’ cause and fight against “wokeness,” there is a general worry about conservatives targeting specific companies for their own political purposes.
A source with ties to former President Donald Trump has argued that if a conservative governor is allowed to use private politics to fight companies, then there is no reason that a Democratic governor cannot do the same. The same source has commented about leaders who “overstep their authority for their own political validation,” saying that conservative media had launched similar attacks on Governors Andrew Cuomo and Gretchen Whitmer in 2020 and 2021 for doing a similar thing.
The Hill states that Trump supporters are not the only ones to have expressed these concerns. A Republican strategist who hasn’t endorsed any particular 2024 candidate said that true conservatives had problems with Disney as well as with those in government who are “picking winners and losers.” The strategist further added that DeSantis had gained national notoriety through the fight with Disney, which meant that he now had to win it.
