(ConservativeHub.com) – Three notable members of Congress called for the impeachment of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas after the recent revelation that for decades he has been receiving luxury presents and trips from a major Republican donor without ever disclosing it. However, most of the Democrats who work with them have been pushing for less extreme actions, according to The Hill.
Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) have all advocated for the impeachment of Thomas due to the recent ProPublica report which revealed that Thomas had been receiving luxury gifts and trips from a conservative billionaire over the course of his years in the court.
Ocasio-Cortez last week took to Twitter to write that this case extends “beyond party or partisanship.” She said that the level of “corruption” involved in this was “almost cartoonish,” and added that lawmakers should impeach the controversial SCOTUS justice.
The Hill reported that Omar also posted a Tweet on that same day, stating that much like she has said before, Thomas absolutely must “be impeached.”
Tlaib also joined the discussion by stating that currently, American faith in the country’s highest court is at “an all-time low.” She further criticized Thomas for accepting “luxury trips from a billionaire mega-donor” and then catering to “right-wing extremists” while serving the court.
She proceeded to say that not only should Thomas be impeached, but the Supreme Court should also establish a better ethics code.
Thomas has defended his actions since the allegations dropped, claiming that he had been told he was not required to disclose trips provided by “close personal friends.”
