(ConservativeHub.com) – Carlee Russell, 25, went missing on July 13, shortly after a telephone call with a 911 operator in which she informed them that she had seen a toddler walking along the interstate on their own in a diaper. The call was made at 9:24 p.m. and the child was supposed to be walking along Interstate 459.

Following the 911 call, Russell called a relative to tell them about the incident. However, the line went silent during the call. She then returned home two days later at 10:45 p.m. and was taken for an assessment at the local hospital.

Now, almost two weeks after Russell went missing, she’s admitted that the kidnapping was fake. According to a statement from her lawyer, she never saw a child on the interstate and asked for “forgiveness and prayers” following her “mistake.”

It was revealed during the police investigation that prior to her disappearance, she had googled the movie “Taken” and searched for many other similar search terms on the same day as the 911 call.

Hoover, Police Chief Nick Derzis revealed during a press conference on Wednesday, July 19, that Russell had stolen a toilet paper roll and a bathrobe along with other items from her workplace, the Woodhouse Spa Birmingham around an hour before the call. After leaving work, she reportedly visited Taziki’s Mediterranean Café and Target to buy some food and snacks.

Many of her personal belongings were then found inside her car, while her phone was found near the car. However, none of the food items were inside the car. Law enforcement officials noted that it was peculiar that she had searched for the movie “Taken” prior to her disappearance, and this is not usually what kidnapping victims will have searched prior to their disappearance.

No charges have been filed in the case yet, but authorities have indicated they could be coming.
