(ConservativeHub.com) – Former President Donald Trump has attracted some criticism in recent days since claiming that he “could never hit” California Governor Gavin Newsom because of how “nice” Newsom was to him.

During a recent interview with Fox News host Tucker Carlson, which was aired on “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” Trump said that he believed Newsom had done a “terrible” job with California. However, he also claimed that he and Newsom once had a positive relationship while Trump was in office. He further argued that the California governor is “very ambitious” but that he has done a “terrible job with the state.”

During his remarks to Carlson, Trump also stated that Newsom was “always very nice” to him and that he even praised the work that he was doing in office. Trump proceeded to state that this was the reason he was never able to “hit him.” He reiterated that Newsom had been kind to him, “relatively speaking.”

According to a BPR report, these remarks led to some criticism by those on the right, who questioned why Trump had anything positive to say about the most important left-wing liberal politicians in the country.

For example, Commentator Kurt Schlichter expressed disappointment that Trump was not willing to attack “this leftist monster” just because he had previously been nice to the former president. He spoke up about this in an April 12 Tweet.

Chronicles Magazine editor Pedro Gonzalez also took to Twitter to say that Newsom has been responsible for “some of the most radical policies in the US,” but that Trump was unwilling to respond to him because he had once been “nice.”
