(ConservativeHub.com) – On Sunday, October 1, Dwayne Anthony Missouri, a former Dallas Cowboy player, was arrested after a puppy was found abandoned in a storage unit in Texas.

Missouri, who allegedly abandoned the puppy, was charged with a misdemeanor for cruelty to non-livestock animals.

The incident occurred in Helotes in June, where the Helotes Police Department was called in after a dog could be heard barking in a StorageMart storage unit. The puppy was found in a hot unit with both of his food bowls empty, and there was also a bag of dog food left on the bed. The temperature at the time was more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

It was also reported that a large percentage of the storage unit was full of shows and clothes. Authorities found urine and feces on a pair of shoes, according to Newsweek.

An affidavit shows that the canine was taken in by Helotes Animal Control. After investigators reviewed the surveillance footage, they discovered that the dog had been brought into the storage unit by Missouri on June 18. The former NFL player then left the dog there without returning until June 25.

On June 20, Missouri also sent StorageMart a voicemail in which he claimed to have left the dog under someone else’s care who had in turn left the dog there. However, the surveillance footage tells a different story.

Following his arrest, Missouri’s bail was set at $2,000. Missouri had previously played two games for the Dallas Cowboys in the 2001-02 season but his statistics were not registered.
